New Year, New Quilts

After a long break over Christmas its time to

get out of holiday mode and into work mode (yuck!!),

but I suppose the mortgage is not going to pay itself.

Hubby and I have both made resolutions with consequences, his is to lose weight 10kgs

by September or he has to delete himself of Mafia Wars which is a game he has been playing for a few years.

Mine is to bust my stash and make at least five quilts for family members and

a charity quilt or my stash goes to the tip, NO way is that going to happen, over

my dead body.

So I have joined the swoon a long and this will be one of the first quilts

for the year, I am determine to win this one.

Has anyone else made resolutions for the year??

Home from Festival

Well its been a while since I returned from Houston, it took me a while to get over the jetlag,

round about 2 weeks, and with work and Christmas approaching I haven't had

much time to blog.

We had a fabulous time in Houston, it was amazing to see all the quilts and

all the booths at festival, it was a feast for the eyes and it took a few days of looking around before

I could absorb that I was finally there.

Our classes were fabulous and we learnt so much, it was great

meeting all my quilting heroes. We had about 4 classes with Jamie Wallen, I love, love

Jamie he was so inspirational and a great teacher.

and Linda Taylor was fabulous as well.

Antique Quilts, I didn't think I would be so drawn to these gorgeous

quilts, every day I would browse the booths looking at the amazing

quilts, I ended up buying 2 quilt tops that I will quilt myself, both from the

1930's and 40's

I also had my eye on another feedsack quilt that was

completed but because I procrastinated??? ..... silly me......

I missed out, I didn't realise how drawn I am

to feedsack quilts, oh well I will just have to make my own.

I did manage to buy some fabric, templates, books, threads, panto's

and other bits and pieces, that in the end I had to buy another

suitcase for the trip home

I knew I was in America when I saw the yellow school bus, you wouldn't think that someone could get so excited over a bus, it just reminds me of the Partridge Family and David Cassidy singing

I think I love you, ha ha!!.................... I know I'm showing my age..........and I know the Partridge bus was not yellow...........Ahh!! the memories. But we did have to usher the kind policeman out the
way so we could get this photo!!. He was very obliging.....he was probably thinking crazy tourists
it's just a bus.

It all seems like a dream now and really cannot believe that
I travelled all that way, lucky I have my photos and quilts to
remind me that I wasn't dreaming.

Houston Quilt Festival

Have arrived safely in Houston for the Festival and am having a blast.
We have attended Quilt Market and started our first classes of many.
Today we had two classes with Jamie Wallen, all I can say is amazing, he was
Fabulous in every way and I feel I have learnt buckets today, will follow up with
Photos later, looking forward to more classes tomorrow. Will follow up with
More later on my return.

My Working Space

You know how things get shoved in the cupboard and end up

lost forever, well today I found my hidden treasure's and I say

treasures's as I didn't realise how much was in there.

As my Laundry/Sewing Room are shared......... things

get a little tight on space at times and I have the habit of just

opening the door and throwing things in.

But today I came up with the idea of some shelving at the end of the cabinet

right behind the door.

Brilliant!!.....I am so pleased with my ~~self~~ shelves.......... p.s ...it helps also when

hubby is a cabinetmaker........a girl has to have some benefits, right!!

Anyhoo, my lovely DD decided to help me out in empting all the

cupboards and sorting out my stash.....what a lovey afternoon I had

finding fabric, folding it up nicely and stacking it neatly

in my new shelves.

I am ~~convinced~~........ no not really........ that, I don't need to

go near a fabric shop for a while.

Shame though, its not going to happen............

as I am a self confessed fabraholic.............sigh!!!!!..........Oh well!!!

It could be worse.

I was in my element this afternoon with all this

yummy goodness......... even my DD was getting

excited...... she was planning a few quilts

for herself.........Shhh!! don't tell her but I think I

have her hooked.

Oh No!.... not two fabraholics in the family. Life's tough hey!!

Here she is working on her second quilt in the last month,

she already has plans for number three and four as presies for friends.

It's nice to have something in common, I will post photos

of the quilt she is working on soon............here's a hint, its made with Good Fortune by Kate Spain.

Very simple but very gorgeous, this quilt made by my

daughter for her friends twenty first birthday.

Made from a Layer Cake with "Lovely" by Sandy Gervais and

a narrow border, this quilt is a very simple and easy first quilt to make.

I have quilted an all over Panto called Hearts in Bloom by Timeless Quilting.

All in all I think she did a great job and her girlfriend loved the quilt.

Houston International Quilt Festival

Well it's time to fess up, I am so excited as it's only two weeks until

International Quilt Festival in Houston

and I am going....arrrghhh!!!

I am so excited I could burst, Karen from

Quilts on Bastings and I are heading to Houston for the Show and

some Longarm classes. We have been planning

and booking over the last few months and I figure

I can start to get excited..... a little bit anyway!!!!

(don't let me down Qantas)

We have booked classes with Irena Bluhm, Sue

Patten, Jamie Wallen and Linda Taylor, it will be

so exciting meeting and learning from these icons

of the quilting world.

I must admit I am a nervous flyer and feel a little

trepidation about being so far from the family, after all, it is half way

across the world, but I know

I will have the best time ever.

I will definitely be taking lots of photos and will probably bore

you all with the details when I get back.

So its back to packing and washing and double checking

I have everything, its so hard to think of what you will need and

I'm not good at packing lightly, but I will force myself, as I know I will probably be sitting on my case

to close it for the return trip.

Farmers Wife Quilt Sampler

Yes!! I have joined in on the Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt

and I must say I was a bit hesitant at first cause I know

that I am good at starting things but not finishing them, so I thought

it will just end up in the cupboard.

But these are really addictive.

All of them looking pretty together, not

sure if I'm liking the dark brown, but that can be changed later on.

I was orginally going to do these by templates, but gave up on that,

then tried paper piecing, definatley gave that a miss, my blocks were

not coming out the size that they should. Then I discovered

Lori's blog Bee in my Bonnet and I followed a few of her

tutorials on working on graph paper to rotary cut them,

much, much, better.

Sigh!!!

Now it is much more fun and I'm learning along the way.

Daisies in the Snow

A finish finally, I have been dragging my butt latley and needed to

get some motivation going, and taa dah!!!

I made this quilt for my friend Lillian for her birthday, which was the

4th July, (that's how far behind I am)

But it's complete now and I love how it looks and love, the

quilting.

I have free motioned flowers on each snowball block,

with pebbling for the centres. The corners I

have done a smaller version but with less petals, I really

enjoyed quilting this one.

I love the back just as much, I was a little worried about how it would look on the back

as I thought I might have to do in the ditch but chose not to and it looks great. This quilt can be used

both ways. So enjoy Lillian and Happy Belated birthday!

Sunny Darwin

Recently hubby and I and our good friends went to visit my

brother in Darwin

The weather was gorgeous and a great escape from

the bitter cold of Melbourne

Darwin Harbour

We had a fabulous time looking around Darwin

and the many attractions. Three Years ago this harbour

development was a dirt bowl so we certainly have noticed a big change.

Now with the new Wave Pool and Convention centre it certainly

has become a busy place.

Next we headed to Litchfield Park and visited the many waterfalls

and billabongs, we had a swim at Wangi Fall which was very refreshing.

We also visited the Jumping Crocodiles at Adelaide River, which is a must

when visiting Darwin. It was amazing to see these

wild animals in their natural habitat and surprising at how

high these animals can jump, when a bit of food is offered. This is

one boat you do not want to fall off, of, as you would certainly be

somebody's dinner.

We also visited Mindle Market, Cullen Bay and Fannie Bay, its such a pretty place

with some fabulous restaurants, hence the reason that I now

need to do some serious excercise.

If you get the chance Darwin is a great place to visit and the weather is fabulous, I certainly

could get use to it.

the show was for this (below). I have been eyeing one of these off

for a long time and finally I have my own.

So I have been busy playing with my new toy, haven't done any

sewing yet just cutting, but boy this is addictive and sooo

fast !!

Also I have been seeing everyones blocks for the Farmers Wife Sampler

Quilt and decided to join in the fun, don't think I will be able to keep up so will

dawdle along at my own pace. So any tips from those who have already started
would be much appreciated

Not sure which fabrics I will make it in yet.

Hip Hip Horray!!!

Well today is a special day, my baby is 21, Happy Birthday

Simone

Who would of belived that this cute little baby would grow and mature to become

this beautiful woman.

I say this because when Simone was 15 she had an abcess

on her brain and had to have emergency surgery which involved

a month in hospital and copious amounts of antibiotics. She also lost her

beautiful hair that was down to her waist, which at 15 was a major

thing.

But she has developed into a beautiful, talented, woman and hopefully now can put

her health issues behind her.

So have a fantastic day and I love you heaps my gorgeous girl.

A little bit of Australiana

Recently we went for a visit to Balranald, New South Wales and

from Melbourne its about a 5 hour trip there and back.

We had a great weekend with awesome company and hospitality.

We were taken around Balranald and enjoyed the picturesque countryside

Yanga Sheep Station 1916

The Sheep Shearing Season in Balranald occurred generally from August to

September. it coincided with a high river so the paddles steamers could navigate the

Murrumbidgee River. The wool could then be transported to market

shortly after shearing occurred.

The station has been closed now for three years but you

could still smell the sheep who had previously passed through.

About 90,000 sheep were shawn each season.

On the way we passed through Taradale and this beautiful bridge

is still in operation today.

As you can see I had fun with the sepia in Photoshop just to give

you more sense of the time.

The weather was glorious and we were getting around in Tshirts in the middle of winter.

Maybe I should consider Balranald for retirement.

All in all it was a great weekend.

Kym's Quilt

I have been on a roll lately and getting some finishes done.

Kym's Quilt

A little while ago my daughter was bored and asked could

she make a quilt, so I had a spare jelly roll lying

around and to keep it simple, being she's new to quilting, we

came up with this.

Not difficult, but none the less good for a beginner, this quilt has been on my pile

of to do's for ~~quite a while~~, ok, ok, a long time, as my daughter has since moved out of home

brought a house and become engaged.

This quilt was going to go nicely with my decor but as DD has

a home of her own now, she has claimed it and is always nagging

me about getting it finished.

I cannot quite remember the name of the fabric, so if anyone can

let me know it would be much appreciated.

I just did a pantograph all over, nice and easy

So DD your quilt is complete and you can now relax

on the couch and admire ~~your work~~ I mean your

clever, talented, fantastic, best mother in the worlds, work he he!!!

A Gardeners Journal - Finish

A finish !!!....Yes.... but its not mine.

Lynda (AussieNeedleNut) and dear friend asked me to quilt her quilt and I have just finished,

she has given me permission to post about it, even though she hasn't seen it

yet, as Hubby and I are off to the Country to deliver her quilt

and enjoy a weekend with Lynda and her hubby. Excited!!!!......

I know that she will be sneak peaking so Hi Lynda, hope you

like my work.

I have meandered inbetween her stitcheries with a free motion

stitching which I call Hodge Podge its just a mixture of, leaves flowers,

feathers and loops and curves.

I have feathered the borders starting from the middle

working out towards the ends

So I hope you love your quilt Lynda ...crossing fingers.... and we

will see you soon. Roll on weekend as I am excited about

our little getaway....whoo hoo!!

Soon I will be posting my finish of the same quilt, just a ~~little~~ lot behind in the

stitch a long, no worries

I will get there in the end.

Bento Blue

After 10 years plus quilting I have finally made and finished

a quilt for Hubby, he has been patiently waiting for his turn

As blue is his favorite colour is was a given that this quilt be blue

I really enjoyed making this quilt, I started it last year when we were away in

Queensland, visiting all the patchwork shops and buying

several fat quarters, so the fabrics for this quilt have come from

near and far.

The blocks are Bento Box and just a mish mash of blues.

I have quilted with an all over Panto call Ocean Froth.

He's happy and I even labeled it which is unusual for me, I know I should label all quilts

I make, but I am always in a hurray to give it to its new owner, but its

something that I am definitely going to work on.

I'm sure she won't mind me showing you

Linda has done a beautiful job of stitching this quilt.

I have done what I call Hodge Podge all over with

feathers in the borders and stitch in the ditch on the embriodered pieces.

Its looking great, even if

I say so myself.

Excuse all my ends that need to be sewn in. That's a job for later

when sitting in front of the telly.

Next will be my Gardeners Journal.

Stash Stack Quilt

Running behind a little as baby No. 2 is about 10

days old now and I have only just finished this quilt.

Julie from Jaybird Quilts had this free tutorial
on her blog and I knew I had to make this.

I love the bright colours and thought it was perfect for a boys quilt.
I love the whales and owls they are soo cute!

Its a single size quilt but I'm sure little Brodee will grow into it.

A nice quick and easy quilt to make on a weekend.
I have machine quilted this with a Panto called Popcorn, great
for babies quilts.

Look what arrived in the mail today

Funny Babies- Pattern by Amy Bradley

As soon as I saw this pattern I knew I

had to make it.

I think I need to accept the fact that I am drawn to

applique quilts and to stop fighting it. More work

I know but the results are worth it.

I cant wait to get into making this quilt its just

the cutest thing.

Are there any applique addicts out there, like me??

What is your preferred method, hand applique, machine or

Raw Edge, I have just recently learnt Raw Edge, I find it quicker, so

that's my preference, whats yours??

Daisy Baby

Well it won't be long now till the first bubby arrives, I think

the 19th May is the due date, we still dont know

what sex the baby is but I have one quilt ready.

Obviously suitable for a girl..............still working

on the boy quilt!

Fabric is Hushabye by Tula Pink, perfect for a little

girl

I made this quilt from a 5" Charm Pack x 2, by just measuring

in an inch from each side and cutting to the corners to create

the tumbler shape.

Very Easy.

I just thought after I had sewn it together that it needed a little

someting so I added the daisies using the raw edge

applique technique

I have quilted an edge to edge pattern called

Splat by Anne Bright

So heres hoping one of my nieces has a girl.

Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Quilt designed by

Kookaburra Cottage

I made this quilt at the request of a lovely lady named Pam

who asked if I could make a quilt to be Raffled for CIKA (Cancer in Kids) at

the Royal Childrens Hospital here in Melbourne.

It took me about 3 months to make and quilt and I was very pleased

with the way it turned out. It also used a good lot of my scraps up and raised about $5000 for the hospital which was so amazing.

My Good friend Linda from Balranald came to visit

the other day to drop of her beautiful quilt for me to quilt.

As you can see mine does not have borders on yet as I am waiting

for fabric.

I so enjoyed the Stitch A Long in Blogland it certainly

encouraged me to keep going as I know I would of

lost interest and it would get buried in the bottom of cupboard.

Although I am a little behind I really appreciated the cheers

and encouragement from the other girls, it really kept me going.

Wonky Star Block

With two babies due in the next two months in our family I decided, I'd better

get a move along with some baby quilts.

I've just started on the first one I'm going

to do Wonky Star Blocks.

The problem is we don't know if they are boys or girls, so

I will have to make two boy quilts and two girl quilts.

Should keep me busy for a while don't you think!

Australian Quilt Convention

Australian Quilt Convention was held here over the weekend in Melbourne and of

course I had to have a sticky beak. I am amazed at the talent of fellow quilters and

the hours they put into their work, so inspiring ............I was not happy though that I

left my camera at home as there were a few quilts that caught my eye.

Of course I had to buy something, what girl wouldn't

A few fat quarters for a baby quilt I'm working on.

Not sure what this is called but it will save me getting up

to the ironing board all the time............I hope.

Bobbinsavers, I already have 2 of each colour of these,

Red for my Pfaff and Blue for my Janome, these are fantastic, especially if you are

travelling around, your bobbins stay exactly where you put them and don't fall out

all over the place and end up in a big tangled mess.

All in all it was a good day

Monsters!!

Another Finish this week.

As you all know I'm a fan of Kellie Wulfsohn and when I

saw her Monster Quilt I had to do something , as time

is short I decided on a cushion. I just love this cushion it is so colourful.

I also love the technique of raw edge applique.

Combined with machine quilting

This is my favorite Monster, he's soo cute!

and GD loved them too!

Mr Magoo has a face

Finally Mr Magoo has a face and a new home.

Little (GD) turned two this week and we had a

lovely BBQ at Healesville Sanctuary.

Finally they meet and she loves him, I really enjoyed

making Magoo but I did find stuffing his arms and legs

a little bit of a challenge as they were so narrow.

But I'm happy with the result, Magoo is a pattern

Stack and Whack

I don't know about you but sometimes I find it hard to

photograph a quilt, this one was especially a problem as

I could not get the colour right.

In the end this was the best I could do

as you can see, I have my trusty assistant with me

Charlie

He is my shadow and sometimes he decides to ~~sit~~ rest right where he

pleases and if thats in the way then too bad mum.

Sentimental Journey by Robyn Pandolph, I love this fabric even though

its been a while since its release, I followed the stack and whack method

which was very easy and quick, made up of 12 inch squares stacked on top

of each other then cut into a further 6 pieces and reassembled.

I then quilted it with a panto, Tea Roses.

A nice and easy quilt to make if your in a hurry

Vegie Delight

have been waiting patiently for my

Vegie patch to produce and finally....even though the tomatoes are still green....

picked them....I figure its getting a bit late for tomatoes.

I am sure someone told me they will ripen on there own

in a warm sunny position???.

Sooooo Corn, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, beans and a couple of

capsicums....I'm happy with that

I have been waiting for these books to arrive, hoping in

time for my Birthday on Saturday.

Seeing Kim's new book release in bloggy land was making

my mouth water and I knew I had to have these, I've had a quick

flip through and found myself saying, "I like this one and this one and

this one....ooooo this one too!" Looks like my scrap pile is

going to get an overhaul....yippee!!

Can't wait to go to bed early tonight with these and study them in more

detail.

Over the Christmas break I caught up with my gorgeous cousin Brenda

who happens to be into quilting as well and she had some show and tell, so of course I had to take some photos and blog about them.

Her son- in- laws grandmother had lots of fabric when she passed and Brenda made quilts

for the family with the fabric, the rest was for her to keep and these are a couple

of the quilts she made.

Brenda recently purchased a Gammil Long arm machine with computer and has been

practicing her skills, I think this looks great, so colourful.

and she has done a fabulous job of the quilting.

this is a top to be quilted and also in

blue as well

and of course always when your trying to do something, you always

get extra input...

I love your quilts Brenda and it shows that there is talent in the family.

ha ha!!

My two nieces over Christmas have announced that they are expecting

in May and June, so when I saw this pattern by Natalie Ross, I couldn't resist.

I love making bits and pieces for babies so I have lots to do and of course

they have to have a quilt!!

I am hoping to find a good pattern for bibs

I seriously have to get cracking and stop procrastinating this year, I have decided this is

I've been a busy girl

I have been inspired by Jackie from Tallgrass Praire Studio

I just love the whimsy look and these

are just that.

My favorite one is the gifts, I loved free handing the bows with my darning

foot on my domestic machine.

I also love this little house.

These have turned out so cute and I have many ideas in my head

of more I want to do, not necessarily Christmas ones though.

Just need to finish the bindings on these and I'm done.

A Wedding to plan

A few weeks ago we had a big

surprise in the SST Family

Kym (my daughter) and her boyfriend Darren

went to Thailand for a holiday and when they came back

they announced their Engagement.

We were all very excited about this news

So Congratulations!! Kym and Darren on your

Engagement!

They have set their date for May 20th 2012, which gives us

a bit of time to organise things.....luckily.

So now we have a Wedding to organise isn't that exciting?

I have been inspired by Lizzie from

who made a new lead for her new

puppy Molly

As we have recently had a new addition to the

SST family I thought I'd give it a go.

So here he is Charlie, he is a Cavoodle, cross between a Toy poodle and

King Charles Cavalier

Isn't he the cutest??

His new lead, we have already given it a test run

and all went well, though I would only use it

for small dogs, so now he has a Designer Doggy Lead...haha!

We are very lucky to have Charlie as when we first got him he was very sick

(which we didn't know)

He had bad gastro and landed at the vets for 5 days, with drips, etc. and had to

be operated on, as they first thought he had a blockage, turned out

it was the gastro, but he pulled through and has not looked back.

So yes he does get spoilt, but how can you resist that face.

Funky Feathers

Today is the first day that I have managed to get on my longarm
since AMQ Festival which was the beginning of October. How bad is that?!!... I have been having
withdrawal symptoms. I feel so much better for playing around and putting
into practice what I learned at AMQ.

I have been practicing on paper and couldn't wait to
get to the machine and today I did it.
My C Curve feathers

I am really pleased with how these turned out, a few little
hitches here and there but I'm sure with more practice this will
disappear.

Today I tried the hump and bump way of doing these feathers
and I found that they bedded together better and had a nicer shape, so I think
I'll be changing to this way.

Can't wait for tomorrow to do some more practicing.

a while but with lifes little happenings I haven't been able

to blog.

Homes Early from AMQ Festival???

Why you may ask.

Unfortunately my daughter was admitted to hospital on Saturday

afternoon with bad pains, turns out she

has an infected gallbladder and gallstones.

Being in Adelaide at the time I was feeling quite helpless and finding out

that surgery was scheduled for Monday I had no hesitation in jumping on the next flight back home.

So yes I am home and my daughter is comfortable and in good hands

in hospital.

I am really disappointed in missing out on my classes with Pam Clark, she was one

teacher that I was really looking forward to meeting.

But that's not to say that I didn't enjoy my time at AMQ Festival and I did learn

soooooo

much valuable information, hints and tips.

Just need to find some time to put it all into practice.

Will post some photos and bits about AMQ Festival as soon as I get over this week.

AQM Festival

How lucky am I, I'm off to the AQM Festival in Adelaide for four days, four days of

longarm classes and quilty goodness with 2 fantastic friends.

We leave Friday morning and return Monday night, some of the best longarm

teachers are coming from America like Pam Clark, so it should be fun and hopefully we will learn heaps

and be able to come home and put it into practice.

There is also a quilt show as well and I know that both Karen and Anita have

entered some of there own quilts, so cross our fingers that one of them will win.

I will be taking lots of photos so will post about everything next week.

Home Sweet Home

Well I have finally finished travelling around the country side and I am back home

where I might add its freezing cold.

I have been to Yarrawonga which is up on the Murray River, the border of Victoria and New South Wales, to be with my Mum,while Dad had his knee Replacement Operation. Turns out he is the star

patient they discharged him today and he only had the op on Monday, not bad for 78.

Back to my quilting, while I was away I did manage to find some Patchwork Shops and brought

some fabrics.

An assortment of blues for hubbies quilt.

He's always hinting that he doesn't have his own quilt, so I have

decided to make a Wonky Log Cabin Quilt, I got the tutorial from

Jackie

at Tallgrass Prairie Studio.

I have made a test block

and so far so good.

Also I purchased some brights for the backing for my summertime quilt

So all I need to do is get busy, so

Greetings from Sunny Queensland

I have managed to sneak a little time to blog, while hubby is snoozing, the weather here is absolutely

gorgeous about 20 to 24 degrees, sunny and not much wind. We have enjoyed some fantastic restaurants

here in Broadbeach, most with fantastic views of the beach. Today we enjoyed lunch at our favorite restaurant

Georges at Sanctuary Cove, I could not resist a photo of what we had, it was delicious, we could not get through it all. We were both so full afterwards.

We were both up early today and went for a walk to Surfers Paradise along the beach 3.7km there and back,

hubby decided to run 2kms of that, and that........... probably explains why he is now asleep at 4.00pm.

I have even been in the pool as well today, don't you just love holidays when you can concentrate on doing

things you never get a chance to do at home like, long walks, swimming, shopping, eating healthily I am so looking forward to retirement, when your time is your own.

Holiday Time

Finally the time has come for me to pack my bags and head off to Sunny Queensland for

10 days with Hubby, a well deserved break from the Business before the Christmas rush

approaches. Don't worry I have a few Patchwork Shops on the agenda, so looking forward

to new shops and quilts, and possibly,.... cross fingers some fabric. I have thought of packing the machine but as we are flying it's not possible...(I have been known to take my machine on

holidays before).

I will not go empty handed as I have packed my stitching for My Gardner's Journal Quilt, hopefully I will catch up as I am behind at the moment.

Soon as we get back I'm heading to Yarrawonga as my Dad is going to have a knee reconstruction,

so I will spend a couple of days with Mum and visit Dad as well.

So Blogging will be on hold for a while.

This is a lovely quilt so bright and warm reminds me of the beach.

I really enjoyed quilting this quilt, pity my back wasn't so obliging.

Girls Day Out

I was lucky enough to be invited by Pam Phillips of CIKA (Cancer in Kids) to the Girls Day Out run by the auxiliaries for the Royal Childrens Hospital.

This was a workshop on different craft projects so as to raise money for the different auxiliaries.

We were lucky enough in the morning to be presented with a 3D presentation of what the hospital will

look like and the facilities, I have to admit that I was blown away with what this hospital will have to offer,

they have taken every aspect into account for the patients, parents, doctors, nurses etc. I think the main thing

is everything is accessible to the kids so even the toddlers can see out the windows as they are virtually

floor to ceiling height and 80% of the rooms will have a view to the natural parklands and the remaining 20% will have views to Garden courtyards add to that, all rooms have internet access and movies available 24/7, provisions for parents to stay, plus 2 storey aquarium with sharks and shark feeding maintained by Melbourne Aquaruium, Motel, IGA Supermarket, Increased parking, possible meerkat enclosure, playgrounds and access to outside from all levels, this is just a few of the many facilities. This is so amazing and we are fortunate enough to have this great hospital opening up at the end of next year. With completion of the whole project in 2014.

Truck Cushion

So I have been playing with my new skills from

I have made this for my girlfriends, daughters son Jett for his

1st Birthday, I am pretty happy with the way it has turned out.

I was soo excited when I finished it I had to show Jett's Mum and Nana, so

they know it's coming, I'm hopeless with surprises.

I did cheat though on this one I did the machine quilting on the

longarm, next time though I promise to do it on the domestic....

Raw Edge Applique

As you all know I love Kellie from Don't Look Now and I was lucky enough to

take a class with her last Thursday. We were all learning the raw edge applique technique with your darning foot on your machine. After a few @#$% words and groans we all managed to get the knack of it.

This was our practice piece for the class. Next class we will be learning how

to quilt the background on our domestic machines.This will be the most challenging

part as it's a different technique to longarming.

What not to Do!

This is what not to do when cooking roast pork.When I

pulled my roast out of the oven to turn the potatoes, I placed it on the cutting board

then placed it back in the oven, only to soon discover a plasticky smell eminating from the oven.

That's right the board had stuck to the roasting dish and was melting away.

So I call it my green cutting board slice, I certainly did a good job. Don't ya think??

Now its hubby's job to clean up the mess!

I think I will give up on cooking pork as last time I did a roast pork the glass

dish shattered all over the oven, so takeaway it was.

Look what arrived in the mail today, the latest pattern Worry Dolls from Kellie of

Dont Look Now . I love Kellie's patterns, they are so bright and cheerful,

great for any child. Kellie has better photos on her site its definitely worth a look.

And what a nice surprise, a bonus cushion pattern as well. I guess I'm

not going to be bored in the near future.

You must go and have a look at her website, be prepared

to lose a few hours though.

This one is quite bright, I can't wait to see this quilt put together.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

I am participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival organized by Amy from Amy's Creative Side, from May 21st to the 25th, 2010. The quilt I have chosen is designed by Sharon Wilkinson and is called Flower Power.

My Girlfriend Lillian asked me to make this for her friend getting married in London.

It has raw edge applique flowers with a checkerboard border and a plain border.

I have machine quilted feathers in the plain border and quilted line dancing

in the checkerboard with an all over meandering in the body of the quilt.

Lillian choose the fabrics, and I really love the bright colours set against the white,

I really enjoyed machine quilting this quilt and I hope that Lillian's friend

enjoys her Wedding Present.

Butterfly Ballet

Butterfly Ballet is what I'm working on at the moment for my daughter, who has been waiting

patiently for me to complete this. Simone wants to paint some of the butterflies in a diagonal

direction across the quilt and then embellish them with crystals.

fantastic.

Block G is finished....Yay!!...

Not quite on time as I had a little glitch, you see my fabric that I have chosen has

writing on it and some pieces were upside down, thanks to hubbies eagle eyes and attention to detail,

this was quickly rectified and taa daa!! its done. So glad this was picked up on the first block and not the tenth, as there would have been one unhappy little quilter.

So now its onto the next block.

Well I have finally finished putting the binding onto this quilt.

This is a pattern by Sharon Wilkinson of Stitching Patch called Flower Power, I have made this quilt for

a friend to give as a wedding present which will be going to London to live.

I am really pleased with the way this quilt has turned out I love the colours that

Lillian has chosen . I have quilted some line dancing in the 2 1/2" squares

and feathers in the outer border. I wasn't to keen to do stipple but it looks fine and I was on a time limit

as this quilt is leaving Australia on Sunday.

The back of the quilt is just plain white

Jelly Roll Quilt -a-Long

I got a little behind in my jelly roll quilt along but am now pleased that I am up to date...yeah!!

This is the third block for the quilt a long

and this is the fourth.

Have been busy quilting my good friend Lillians quilt that she is taking

to London as a Wedding present, will hopefully have photos up

soon....as soon as I do the binding!!

Had a little helper in the garden today, beautiful little Abbey.......did I say helper????

Just push me around the garden Nan then I'll help!!

See...... I'm getting the water!!

Nah!!!....... maybe I'll just smell the flowers...

Or maybe I'll just sit here and look cute!!

I made some Pj's for my little Grandaughter, Abbey, they didn't take long to make

and its surprising how quickly it comes back to you, I haven't made any PJ's for

about 20years when my kids were little. How quickly time passes!!

And they even fit too!!

Stacked Coins Baby Quilt

I have made this quilt from Crazy Mom's Blog, Stacked Coins Tutorial, I have used Soiree by Lila

Tueller, and Kona Cotton Brt Pink for the binding.

I love these fabrics, so bright and colourful.

and the back

I went to photograph this quilt and found a large dirty mark on it

and panicked as I have to hand it over to my friend on Thursday.

So into the washer and dryer it went, which I believe was better as

it has shrunk slightly and makes the quilting look better.

I have used the panto Butterfly Kisses by Timeless Quilting Designs.

A Gardener's Journal

I have joined A Gardener's Journal Stitch a long, I have had this book by Annie Downs from Hatched and Patched for quite some time

and have always wanted to make this quilt but time has not been on my side, then when I saw Chookyblue's blog about the stitch a long I knew this was my motivation. I did hesitate to join as I am worried I

may lag behind as stitching is not my strong point (I'd rather do it on the machine).

The fabrics I have chosen are Whimsy and I was busy at spotlight this morning

picking all my threads. so I'm ready to go.

I was so excited once I made the decision that I was awake at 3.50am thinking

I was delighted to find that my Bread making skills have not disappeared.

I use to make my own bread, coffee scrolls, hot cross buns years ago when the kids were little.

A comment was made by one of them, remember when you use to make bread Mum, so it got me thinking, there's nothing like the smell of home made bread wafting through the house and it tastes better, not to mention its better for you, and not full of preservatives.

So ta...daaa!!! here it is and the kids came out of their rooms once the smell hit

their cute little noses.

I am glad to report that, the loaf was virtually gone within an hour and I was told that I'll have to make another one.

I still would rather quilt than bake at least that way you still have something to show for your efforts.

Busy Busy Busy

My how time fly's, we are already half way through March and heading into Easter soon. We had a long

weekend here in Melbourne on the 5th, 6th and 7th, so I have been away up in Tocumwal a beautiful

spot on the Murray River which divides Victoria from New South Wales.

Also its our Granddaughter's 1st Birthday, Happy Birthday Abbey!!. Here is a photo of her on her new trike that Granddad and Nana gave her. Doesn't she look cute??

She kept us busy pushing her around the park.

In between Holidaying and Birthdays I have been working on a quilt for a customer

who is taking this to London as a Wedding Present. I have to have this completed by Mid April, including

quilting it as well

This is a sneak peak, I will show you more when I have finished.

So far I have cut up my fabric and its sitting ready to be put together.

Need to think hard when putting this one together as one wrong placement

can throw the whole design out.

Will have to map this one out on the lounge floor.
